The one who fled South Sudan because of war has become the 10th pick of the NBA draft 2025 and the African overall of all time. Reflecting on his journey as a boda boda rider (motorcycle taxi) and for someone who has embraced basketball at thirteen, his journey is quite a fairy tale, and it will serve as inspiration to many young people on the continent. From the NBA Academy in Senegal to the Olympic games and the FIBA World Cup with the South Sudan basketball team, his talent couldn’t be seen.

Back then in Uganda, Khaman Maluach used to dream the impossible as he walked the dusty streets of Kawempe, a disadvantaged suburb on the outskirts of Uganda’s capital, Kampala. But today his dream has become true not for him alone, before representing the NBA academy and Duke University, he’s still representing the SKILLS BOYS of Kampala, where it all started.
Like he said in the recent interview, “ I want to reach the hall of fame.” We wish him all the best for the new NBA season.
