The Las Vegas Grand Prix marked the third American race weekend on the 2023 Formula 1 calendar, joining the Austin and Miami Grands Prix. We recall Austin played host to the second of three F1 races in 2023 back in October.
However, the Las Vegas race weekend sparked controversy with some fans fed up with the increasing number of race weekends in America.

Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, ardently pleads for a return of motor racing to Africa. The F1 icon stressed the importance of bringing the competition back to the African continent, even calling it the “most important venue” for the championship.
Hamilton expressed his desire during a question-and-answer session with fans of the Mercedes team, emphasizing that Formula 1 should be more than just a sporting event, but rather a vehicle for positive change for communities.
The last Grand Prix in Africa dates back to 1993, with the race at Kyalami in South Africa. Besides this country, Morocco also hosted a Formula 1 race in 1958 in Ain-Diab, Casablanca.
Currently, Morocco has become a regular venue for Formula E with a round in Marrakech. F1’s management company, Liberty Media, is actively considering a return of the competition to the African continent, recognizing this expansion as a priority.
Hamilton emphasizes the importance of choosing a venue for a race that goes beyond financial considerations, emphasizing human and community aspects. He stresses that F1 has the potential to be a driver of social progress and wants the focus to be on Africa, showcasing its beauty and its communities in a context where the positive impact on local populations takes precedence first of all.
